Abstract :
This study uses remote sensing image and Geographic Information System (GIS) to quantify the economic value of a small island’s resource based on economic principles. In particular, it analyses and visualizes spatial values. The economic evaluation was derived from Landsat and ALOS image with a long range period. Landsat was classified as initial data and ALOS as end data. The classification of the images was then converted and processed with the GIS to produce the change/balance map. The economic parameters selected for the valuation include the economic values of the land and the sea. These were compared with the balance map and became the small island economic value balance map. The significance of this map is that it not only visualizes the economic values of the island but also aids in decision making.
