Abstract :
The concept of regional planning entails changes by which an entire society and social system move away from a condition of life widely perceived as unsatisfactory towards that generally regarded as better. This study overviews the impacts of Johor Bahru urbanisation development on the quality of life and wellbeing of the local population within the context of the Iskandar Malaysia regional development. Findings revealed the rise of a host of new issues and challenges including the provision of adequate basic amenities, employment and housing for urban residents, the influx of rural migrants and foreigners, urban poverty, environmental degradation, traffic jams, crimes, the threat on neighbourhood security and moral decay.
