Abstract :
Fishermen community is a social community that is related to the fisheries resources as the main source of income. The dependence on fisheries catches cause fishermen to spend most of their time at sea, even sometimes up to several days. This is because this profession is much being influenced by weather. The hectic tasks as fisherman should not be the excuses for an individual from performing their religion obligations. However, how far is the importance of religious lifestyle been emphasized in this community? This article examines the importance of religious lifestyle from Selangor Muslim fishermen’s perspectives. The research results that involve 172 fishermen shown that majority of respondents do not make the hectic work style as an excuse to perform the obligations as a Muslim. The research also shown the importance of religious life within family and community also been stressed by the respondents involved. Even though the emphasis on religious lifestyle is visibly shown by the respondents, however there is slightly curiosity that leads to issue on religiosity whereby majority of the fishermen still use shaman/witch doctor services to fulfill their wishes.
