Abstract :
Through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, the corporations have been identified as one of the contributors of the community development programmes. Hence various efforts had been done to encourage the initiatives. However, to what extend does the CSR initiatives able to contribute to the economic development of the community? This article examines the recipient s community perspective of a CSR project by a corporation in Pasir Puteh Kelantan. A total of 45 farmer community members that participated in the CSR project has been interviewed. Analysis of the data on participants’ experiences of the project has identified 15 basic themes. The themes have subsequently been grouped into three components base on the meaning to form three major themes namely employment opportunity, generation of income and acquisition of assets. The three major themes indicate the meaning of economic development given by the community involved in the CSR initiatives.
