Abstract
The present article is a discourse on techno cities’ view of knowledge city in the post smart city period. The smart city era emphasized on the importance of information for the advancement of urban commercial development of the 21st century. Today, techno cities’ theory is multi dimensional and emphasizes the importance of valuable knowledge which is based on moral and ethics. Such understanding has managed to overcome the barrier of modernization and eventually become the main critic of the idea of modernization itself. In Malaysia, recent techno cities’ thought triggers the birth of a first class community of knowledge cities within the context of 1Malaysia. This paper discusses the theory of techno cities within the context of a knowledge city with special reference to Bandar Baru Bangi (BBB). From the pluralist perspectives of thesis, anti-thesis and synthesis the discussion highlights three main epistemological debates of modern, post-modern and Islamic perspectives. The study found that the BBB community knew about the concept of knowledge city. However the level of their techno cities’ thought was a moderate one. In terms of practice, the BBB community was still at the beginning stage and this should upgrade.
