Youth and the enculturation of the spirit of volunteerism in Malaysia: A conceptual observation

The spirit and activities of volunteerism are indispensable building blocks of a country’s national unity . This study took a closer look at the need for the enculturation of proper volunteerism values in Malaysia. It was observed that for both youths and the country to fully benefit each other from volunteerism the inculcation of the spirit of volunteerism as a national culture must be fostered. This is to circumvent the concerns that voluntary activities in the country were not driven by the genuine appreciation of the high civilizational value of volunteerism requiring sacrifices in terms of time, energy and finance but rather by the youth treatment of them as mere conduits for fun seeking, boredom killing and spare time filling . Both Malaysia and its youths would be made the better if the true spirit of volunteerism is enculturated.
