Abstract :
Environmentally-friendly food containers (BMA) is product packaging that is supposed to contribute to environmental sustainability. The use of BMA is gaining momentum in developed countries especially the United States and Europe in line with the extension of environmental awareness, understanding and education starting from school to higher education. This preliminary study identified the level of knowledge, understanding and awareness of Malaysia’s higher education students with regard to environmentally-friendly food containers (BMA) in fostering sustainable environment. Primary data were gathered from 50 randomly sampled students of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Results of the analysis revealed that regardless of gender the use of eco-friendly food containers did not figure highly in the students’ idea of an environmentally sustainable campus. Neverheless, they did express willingness to learn to know more about eco-friendly food containers and their environmental benefits.
