To gather objective evidence for the effectiveness of their interventions, should responsible clinicians rely on the necessity to better characterize patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease as being affected by the benign or progressive form (simple fatty liver or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) and by which means? Disease markers, imaging tools, histology?
