  • Abstract
Many factors such as production meth ods and structura l param eters have distinctive infl uence on the quality and performa nce of a hand woven ca rpe t. To inves tiga te the effects of some variab les, eigh teen samp les of ca rpet vary, in knot den sity, pile heigh t and percen tage of slipe wool, were manufactured, Pile yarn pe rforma nce wa s assessed by using load-displac ement compressio n curve. ob ta ined from Zw ick ten sile tes te r under cyc lic loading, up to 30 kPa . Based on the results. compre ss ion and matting of the pil e yarn de creas ed and its elas tic reco very increas ed with the increase in kno t den sity . Increase in pi le height ca used an increase in the deg ree of va ria tion fo r ca rpet samples. Mailing of samples decre ased with increase in pile he ight to ce rta in level , but furt her inc rease ca used inc reased reduct ion in matting. Elastic recove ry of pile ya rn had a reverse trend as the pile height changed. Consequently. increase in pe rcen tage of slipe woo l ca used an inc rea se in compressio n and ma tt ing, and also reducti on in e lastic rec overy of pile ya rn.
