Abstract :
Petalangan tribal communities settling and dispersed in the Pelalawan regency, Riau are classified as modern civilised and cultured people, but they still believe in their traditional medicine systems despite the fact that they live within the vicinity of health centers, midwives and medical doctors. However, currently their traditional medicine system is experiencing crisis due to the fact that less and less forest plants which are the source materials used in their traditional medicine are not readily available. A variety of plants available in the original forest around them have been greatly reduced due to land degradation and deforestation, and replaced by the development of monoculture crops, despite the fact that their belief in traditional medicine is still very strong.
