Abstract :
Introduction: Bronchogenic carcinoma is a common malignancy amongst males, especially with history of smoking. It usually presents clinically with respiratory features, but many a times the presentation may be with one or more of the paraneoplastic manifestations of these cancers. Therefore, the physicians need to be well aware of these paraneoplastic manifestations in order to avoid any diagnostic delay, which may prove fatal. Case Presentation: We report the case of a 55 year old male who presented with 3 months history of progressive pallor, weakness and low grade fever. He had hepatosplenomegaly on examination and complete blood count showed leucocytosis. Initially it appeared that he was suffering from a myeloproliferative disorder, but a detailed workup led to diagnosis of bronchogenic carcinoma. Conclusion: This case report highlights the importance of paraneoplastic manifestations of bronchogenic carcinomas, some of which are very uncommon and at times, may pose a diagnostic dilemma. Therefore, physicians need to be aware of not only the common, but also other uncommon paraneoplastic manifestations of bronchogenic carcinoma and their prognostic implications.
