Abstract :
All languages in the world experience changes and growth throughout its history; from a variety of aspect, whether in terms of grammar, word formation, semantics and others. In the Arabic language, in particular, aspects of words and phrases are among the key aspects of major changes. This paper aims to study the contribution and role of the Arabic newspapers in shaping the identity of the standard Arabic language in terms of words and phrases especially after the revolution in the Arab communication. The focus is on changes in the use of words that are recognized and popularized by the newspapers before they are accepted and adopted by other mediums. This includes loan words that are more widespread use in the Arab press today. According to most linguists, modern Arabic arrived with the outbreak of the revolution in the aspect of communication technology and education as a result of a global interlanguage culture between world languages. To achieve the aim, 422 articles from 7 different newspapers from different countries were collected and analyzed. This includes two newspapers from non-Arab countries, namely the United Kingdom and Australia. The study found that there are a lot of new words and phrases that appear in Modern Standard Arabic.
