Abstract :
Countries in the ASEAN region are highly dependent on island and coastal tourism. However, the destination countries need to formulate strategies to continue retaining tourist arrivals to their islands as well as increasing the number each year. For tourists, planning a careful journey by considering the time, distance, route and vacation cost to the destination need to be made ahead for a perfect holiday. By looking at the travel patterns, Malaysia is able to provide alternatives in designing various initiatives by the industry players in promoting the arrival of the international tourists. This study is conducted with the objective of identifying the tourist travel patterns and the transportation systems. By using quantitative methods, a total of 848 respondents were involved in this study. The output of the can be used as a link to the Malaysian archipelago knowledge, assist the planners and the implementers to set an effective strategy to make Malaysia islands an attractive destination among the foreign tourists.
