Vaginal Hyperplasia and Vaginal Prolapse in a Doberman Bitch

Case Description-A 14 month old female Dobermann dog, with a history of dysuria and the presence of a mass of tissue protruding through the vulva was referred to the Clinic of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman.Clinical Findings-In the clinical examinations, a large and firm mass of tissue was seen into the vulvaropening. Contrast radiography did not confirm the presence of urinary bladder into the protruded organthrough the vulva.Treatment and Outcome- After owner s agreement, the protruded mass was amputated as a treatmentof chuice and some samples were ta ken for histopathological examina tions . Histop athologic evaluations showed hyperplasia of the vaginal epithelium, especially in the basallayer, intracellular edema and spongiosisin the vaginal epithelium. Accord ing to the histopath ological findings and our clinical be rvations, vagina l fold prolapse was confirmed.Clinical Relevance-Amputating the prolapsed vagina by using horizontal mattress suture pattern, insuch cases is the treatment of choice.
