Abstract :
A series of 1-[(substituted benzylidinamino) (substituted phenyl)methyl]-2-napthols were synthesised by condensation of aryl/hetero aryl aldehydes, 2-napthol and ammonia under microwave as well as by conventional method. These Schiffs bases cyclize in the presence of chloroacetyl chloride and triethylamine to produce the title compounds. The structural features of the newly synthesised compounds were obtained by 1HNMR, IR, Mass and Elemental analysis. The synthesised compounds were screened for antibacterial activity against: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas vulgaris, B. Subtilis, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, and the antibacterial activities are reported.
