Abstract :
Reaction of the Et4N^+ salt of μ-H[Mo(CO)5]2 ¯with excess of bis(diphenylphosphino)-methane (dppm) ligand in THF under reflux yielded [(μ-H)(Ph2PCH2PPh2)Mo2(CO)8]¯and [(μ-H)(μ-Ph2PCH2PPh2)2Mo2(CO)6]¯ anions (designated as anions I¯ and II¯ respectively). Anidentical product was also synthesized in a solid state reaction independently using a radiationmicrowave oven. The two compounds were characterized by IR and 1H n.m.r. [Et4N][ II¯] hasbeen characterized by single crystal x-ray diffraction. The two Mo atoms at a distance of3.4633 (4) Å are triply bridged by the hydride ion and two dppm ligands . The average distance between the P—P donor atoms of the dppm ligand is 3.1285Å. The complex anion II¯shows an overall linear–eclipsed configuration.
