  • Abstract
    Dust emission is becoming more noticeable nowadays due to the rapid industrialization program carried out worldwide. Industrial dust pollution consists of finely divided solid matter originating from fracture processes. Operations in the quarrying industry such as material transport, blending, blasting, crushing, grinding and tipping of material are the primary sources of industrial dust. Only fine dust is hazardous to the health and should be continuously monitored. Basically dust can be classified into nuisance and respirable dust. Nuisance dust of particle size is greater than 10 microns (µ) while respirable dust is sized less than 10 µ Efficient industrial dust management at respective potential dust emission sites would be useful in minimizing the dust problem. Appreciating and arresting the dust problem in the industry is useful in increasing worker s efficiency, reduce downtime due to accidents, improve the performance of the respective engineering plants and also the evolvement of a healthy work environment. This paper reviews the health problems due to excessive industrial dust emission, comparative applications and efficiency of the various dust control systems employed in the industry and the advances of information technology developed from research for improved industrial dust management with the aim of satisfying environmental standards and community expectations.
