Abstract :
A parametric study is conducted to interpret the force reduction factor values of steel moment resisting frames as given in the proposed Egyptian code. The force reduction factor is used to estimate the inelastic strength demands from the elastic ones as it accounts for the ability of structures to dissipate energy through inelastic deformations. This study focuses on the evaluation of the ductility reduction factor which is considered the main component of the reduction factor. Hence, nonlinear static and nonlinear dynamic analyses using two different software programs are employed to assess the ductility reduction factors for two groups of structural models representing residential and storage buildings. In addition, simplified formulas suggested by different researchers were used.
