Abstract :
Orthogonal polynomial function method has been developed for the simultaneousestimation of binary mixtures of Paracetamol and Mefenamic acid in tablet formulations. All the parameters for orthogonal polynomial function method have beenoptimized by using computer programme in “C” language. The described method was applied for the determination of these combinations in synthetic mixtures and tabletdosage forms. The contents of paracetamol in tablets were found to be 440.84 mg and that of mefenamic acid was 497.25 mg of the label claim (450 mg of paracetamol and 500 mg of mefenamic acid, respectively). The linearity was validated by the least square method. The recovery is within the limit of 98% to 102%. The proposed methods are simple, economical, accurate, reproducible and rapid.
