Abstract :
In this work, a new cloud point extraction (C.PE) method was developed for the separation . . .and preconcentration or cerium from aqueous solutions. The methodology used is basedon the formation of cerium 8-Hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) complex that is extracted into themicellar phase (Triton X-114) at a temperature above the cloud point temperature (CPT).After phase separation, the surfactant rich phase was diluted up to 1.0 1111 and studied byinductivelycoupled plasma-optical emissionspectrometry (ICP-OES). Under the optimum. . ..extraction conditions and instrumental parameters, by prcconcentration of only 10.0 ml ofsample in the presence of 0.1% Triton X-114, an enhancement factor of 11.0 was obtained. The analytical curve was linear in the range 01 3 ...,.1500 ~tg L and the detection limit was 1.0ug L. The proposed method was applied to the determination of cerium in water sampleswith satisfactory results
