Abstract
In alkali pH, boric acid shows specific interaction with biological compound like carbohydrates and (alpha)-hydroxy acid. In this investigation sucrose, lactose, arabinose and glucose were chosen as representative sample for thin layer chromatography (TLC) on silicagel plates. Solvent system of chloroform-methanol-water-ammonium hydroxide 120:75:6:2(V/V) was chosen as mobile phase on TLC plates impregnated with boric acid. The methodis based on different behavior of investigated compounds in impregnated TLC plates withdifferent amount of boric acid. Specific interaction of these substances with boric acid haseffect on Rf in thin layer chromatography.
