Abstract :
The aim of this study is to investigate experimentally the mechanical properties of friction-welded 6063 aluminum alloy and AISI 430 Ferritic stainless steel in terms of friction pressure and upset pressure. Friction welding is conducted with five different welding parameters, Friction pressure and Upset pressure are varied likewise rotational speed, burn-off length and duration of welding are held constant using a directdrive type friction-welding machine. There is no deformation in hard metal side while the deformation takes place in soft metal side only. The axial shortening of specimen decreases with increase in friction pressure while it increases with increase in forge pressure. The tensile strength and impact strength are increased with increase in forge pressure and shortening of axial length. The micro hardness variation at the joint interface is studied. Micro structural studies are also carried out to . The characteristics such as tensile strength and microstructural aspects exhibited by friction processed joints are compared to parent metals
