Reflections Of Cihannüma: A Document Analysis

Katip Çelebi has an important role in Ottoman modernisation period. The bibliographic works about in his writing show that his writings were studied with great interest from local and foreign science environment. This paper deal with Cihannüma which is Katip Çelebi’s work about geography. Primary question is which aspects of Cihannüma was studied in scientific woks up to now. Therefore, two bibliography works are used which is prepared by Yılmaz (2011) and Ağaoğlu (2013) and I reached about 99 works. This works are analysed with document analysis method and qualitative works. The aim of this study determine that who, which purpose and how they study Cihannüma. We found that, Cihannüma is studied by the historians at most and the most writing works are article. When we compare the number of the encyclopedia article, the book tittle and the articles, the number of the boks are insufficient according as article. Works of Cihannuma concentrate on birth and death anniversary. It is seen that we need to the researcher who study about Katip Çelebi. Katip Çelebi, who is very important in term of the history of geography, begin passing from classical period to the modern period in Ottoman Geography’s History. So we think that there must be more worked about Cihannüma for the history of Geography.
