  • Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of form one students in using Computer-Assisted Teaching and Learning (CATL) to learn the Istana Menanti novel. It is a newly introduced text in the literature component aimed to fulfill the Malay language syllabus since 2010. These CATL materials adopted tutorial approach based on the Hannafin and Peck model and integrated with ASSURE model as a design to create an efective and creative learning environment. A total of 122 Form 1 students from 3 secondary schools in Muar, Johor were involved in this research. The data were collected using questionnaire which were then analysed using descriptive statistics. This study suggested that the multimedia software meets the students’ needs in learning the novel. They can learn at their own pace without depending on their teachers. CATL has also increased their motivation and enhanced their understanding in the literature component.
