Abstract :
The aim of the study is to analyses the science high schoolers’ attitudes towards math and their academic self-concepts in relation to (a) maternal educational background, (b) maternal employment status, (c) ) paternal educational background , (d) paternal employment status and (e) income level. The sample includes a total of 345 Ankara Science high school students. The data were collected through the use of an attitude scale with 24-item, an academic self-concepts scale with eight-item and demographic information form. The finding obtained show that neither mothers’ educational background and their employment status have effects on the subjects’ attitudes towards math and on their academic self-concept. It is also found that fathers’ education background as well as their occupational status and income level do not have any impact on the participants’ attitudes maths and on their academic self-concepts.
