Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to compare teachers’ opinions about multiple intelligences applications in rural mathematics education and their students’ multiple intelligence areas. Mixed model was used in this descriptive study. Sample of the qualitative study consists of 521 students which were selected from primary schools in the cities in seven geographical regions in the rural Turkey. Work group of the quantitative study consists of 7 mathematics teachers from those primary schools. Data were collected by “Inventory of Multiple Intelligences” and an interview form. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze qualitative data and content analysis was used to analyze quantitative data. According to the results of the study, multiple intelligences which teachers’ most emphasized in mathematics lesson, and students’ most advanced multiple intelligences were parallel. Finally, some suggestions for developing multiple intelligences applications in rural mathematics education were offered.
