Abstract :
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ARCS Motivation Model on the students’ academic achievement and retention of learning in the 6th grade Science and Technology course. The sample of the study is consist of 40 students from two intact classes in a public elementary school in Erzurum city centre. One of the classes was randomly assigned as experimental group (n:20) in which ARCS was implemented, and the other classes was randomly assigned control group (n:20) in which traditional instruction was used. In this study Science and Technology Achievement Test (STAT) and Retention Test (RT) are used to collect data. Data were analysed statistically. The results showed that the students in the experimental group were more successful than the students in the control group. Also students in the experimental groups more succesuful than control group on the retention test.
