Abstract :
This study aims to examine the visual materials on the school walls in view of history teaching and the views of students on these materials. In this frame, the visual materials on the walls of 25 schools were examined and a focus group interview was done with six groups of secondary school students. As a result it has been determined that there were averages of 19 different visual teaching in each school and most of them were the portrait images of Ottoman history. Students stated that the pictures are important; yet, they are not useful and attractive enough. The students stated that the pictures which attract attention portray a particular event in a realistic and artistic ways should be displayed on the school walls. It is suggested that the affectivity of visual materials placed on school walls for teaching history depends on portrait of historical evidence, attractive and thought provoking features.
