Abstract
This research has been conducted to assess the approach of social sciences high school students with regard to following topics: Teaching geography; the subjects students find difficult to understand; Points to take into consideration for geography teachers; Practice of geographic information in everyday life; Ideal classroom environment for geography class. In the second semester of 2010-2011 school years, 196 students who study at Istanbul Prof. Dr. Mümtaz Turhan High School of Social Sciences have joined the research. Five openended questions have been asked to the students. At the end of the research the majority of the students have stated their opinions as follows: In a geography class visual materials should be used more. Instruction should be students centered. The practice of what they have learned in geography classes is crucial. Having a classroom in which any tools and equipment concerning geography is necessary.
