Abstract :
The main objective of this study is to identify who the school principals are from theirown perspectives and according to their views, to identify how they perceived themselves andtheir responsibilities. This study is a qualitative research and in order to acquire the dataphenomenological method, which provides to focus on cases that we are aware of but donot have deep and detailed insight, was used. The data of the study was collected by focusgroup interview technique. School principals in the study, expressed their ideas as follows;1) A principal should be leader of the school. 2) School principals should be selected amongteachers who are preferably successful and have master degree and career steps system shouldbe created. 3) Selected candidate principals expressed their ideas about the benefit of on-jobtraining (mentor-apprentice system) with an experienced administrator after the in-servicetraining course.
