THE THEMATIC EXAMINATION OF UNIVERSITIES’ EXPRESSIONS OF MISSION

This study intends to assess thematically the elements used in the Turkish universities’ expressions of mission and to present what items are expressed and how frequent they are used and to exhibit their similarities clearly. To that end, 103 state and 65 foundation universities’ expressions of mission which are published on their web pages in Turkey constituted the target population of this study. However, 94 state and 19 foundation universities’ expressions of mission were addressed in this study because 9 state and 19 foundation universities haven’t published their expressions of mission on their web pages. When those expressions are generally addressed, it is seen that universities express their missions under the theme of “Education and Training Service” more frequently. This theme is followed by “Collectivism”, “Universalism”, “Science and Technology”, “Values”, “Field of Activity” and “Democracy” themes according to the frequency of use.
