  • Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to examine teachers’ opinions about informal punishments using analytic hierarchy process. The methodology of this study consists of two stages. Phenomenology approach, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used at the first stage, whereas analytic hierarchy process (AHP) which is an analytic method that used the outcomes of the previous qualitative stage, was used at the second stage. According to the findings, negative behaviors of the students were towards their friends, to disrupt the flow of the course and towards their teacher. Psychological punishment was applied to students. According to teachers, students suffering from informal punishments are the ones “who consider the failure to comply with the rules as superiority”. In order to prevent negative behaviors of the students, teachers prefer an active method and talk with the pupils. Teachers relate the usage of informal punishment to “students being irresponsible and problematic”.
