Abstract :
Aim of this study is to examine Social Studies teacher candidates’ vocational self-esteem in terms of some demographic variables. The research data was obtained from 230 teacher candidates who study in Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, and Department of Social Studies Teacher in the academic year of 2012-2013. In the research where was conducted descriptive survey method, as a means of data collection, “Personal Information Form” created by the researcher and “ Vocational Self-Esteem Scale” developed by Arıcak (1999) were used. The research data were analyzed by IBM SPSS 20.0 program. Result of the research, it is found that there is a meaningful difference in terms of gender, preference rank and reason of choosing the teaching profession to vocational self-esteem of Social Studies teacher candidates. There is no meaningful difference in terms of the variables type of high school they graduated, class, whether or not to be teacher their mother or father, mother’s and father’s learning situations, occupational status of mother and father and the monthly total income of family.
