Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to analyse teachers’ ideas about readiness of 60-66 months old children who just start school in terms of physical, mental, emotional features and language development. This is a qualitative study and standard sampling is used among the purposeful sampling methods. The research group consists of 25 1st year classroom teachers. These teachers work in different primary schools which are in the centre of Hatay. As a data collecting tool, semi-structured interview form is used by the researchers According to the results obtained at the end of the research, it is stated that the finger muscles of the children who are 60-66 months old- are not developed sufficiently and they cannot adjust themselves to the physical conditions of the classroom in respect of height-weight ratio. The following ideas are stated by the teachers. These age group students have difficulty in understanding the situations and they also have difficulty in the perception of situations which are expressed. Additionally teachers said that 60-66 months old students have difficulty in expressing themselves and communicating in terms of language development.
