Abstract :
In this study, revealing the metaphors about the concept of environment of the training teachers of social studies was aimed. Work group of the study consisted of 357 students studying in Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education Social Studies Department. In the study, phenomenology pattern was used. The data of the study was obtained by making the students complete the sentence: “Environment is like...; because....” For analysing the data, the technique of content analyse was used. According to the findings of the study, teacher trainees produced 58 valid metaphors. These metaphors were classified under 11 categories. Following the study, top five metaphors produced by the participants were detected as human (11, 60%), home (7, 73%), family (6, 62%), mother (5, 52%) and child (4, 97).
