Abstract :
Teaching the structure of language as well as its culture in foreign/second language teaching has become a controversial issue recently. The aim of this qualitative meta-analysis study is to identify the research trends and gaps by comparing the research studies on culture teaching in Turkish (TFL) and English (EFL) as foreign/second language classrooms. Data was collected from the research studies published in indexed journals in Turkey related to TFL education and studies listed in the Selected References (TIRF,2013) related to EFL education. Findings showed that there are some differences between the available research on Turkish and English contexts in terms of perception and attitude, topic variety, research design and research contexts (e.g. foreign language context and second language context). It was suggested that further research on teaching Turkish culture should be carried on the different contexts.
