Abstract :
This study has been conducted under the second author’s guidance and based upon the first author’s thesis. In this study, social science teacher candidates’ views on shyness have been examined. The study group consisted of 35 voluntary students who were in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years at the department of teaching social sciences in the first semester of 2013-2014 academic year at the education faculty of Kastamonu University. 35 teacher cadidates with a low and high level of shyness have been interviewed face to face in order to identify the reasons of shyness and its sociological and physiological effects as well as its effects on academic and career success and to discover the ways of coping with shyness and the candidates’ thoughts and actions when it comes to taking responsibility. In the light of the interviews with the candidates, it has been found that shyness level affects academic and career success.
