Abstract :
This paper presents the results of electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) grinding experiments performed on 2124 Al/SiCp metal matrix composite material reinforced with 15% SiCp. In this study a metal bonded CBN wheel is used. Normal forces and tangential forces are monitored. Surface roughness, Vickers hardness number, metal removal rate and wheel loading are measured. When the results are compared, ELID grinding shows fewer grinding forces due to the breakage of the insulating layer formed on the grinding wheel. A smoother surface can be obtained using a high current duty ratio. Vickers hardness number is reduced when ELID grinding is done with high current duty ratio. Wheel loading increases when the depth of cut and feed rate increases.
