Abstract :
Turkish Cinema started to increase in quantity and quality in 1960’s. Metin Erksan, making significant movies in this period, has two different tendencies in his films. In early years of 60’s, Erksan directed films that reflect social realistic point of view and took part in various cinema movements in this direction. After mid terms of 60’s, with political and social changes he shifted to individual centered cinema. Despite the changes in his cinema view, it can be said that there were still some components that remained the same thematically. Except for his commercial films, Erksan reflects his characters’ obsessive passions, that throw them into tragedy, in the context of property, crime and sexuality. Kuyu movie (1968) stands out by covering these concepts clearly and points out the concept of desire underlying in Erksan’s cinema. In this study, the concept of desire, that forms the base of Kuyu movie’s narration, was analysed within the framework of Lacanian Psychoanalytic Approach in order to display its quality and functioning style. In the analysis, it was concluded that the film based on the fantasy world that the man character creates to satisfy his desire. The woman character is positioned as the target of the man character’s obsessive passion and passive object of desire. The narration of the film reflects the idea that a woman rejecting this position can not exist in a patriarchal society.
