INTERNET USAGE PATTERNS AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

New social system defined as “Information Society” came into picture after the half of 20th century and it prepared a suitable environment for quick technological and scientific transformation all over the world. With this transformation, communication technologies entering effectively in our daily life is internet by coming into picture with connecting so many networks. Internet has gained an importance our social life and as a system it also provides possibility to realize some services quickly, people can fallow developments and situations all over the world at the same time anymore. At this moment, people can communicate each other, shop, use possibilities of e-state and bank services and also people can reach news and information easily from all over the world. This study was designed in order to show internet usage behaviors of university students in the example of Selcuk University. According to results of survey conducted on 440 students from Selcuk University; it is found that men spent more time on internet than women. Desire about reaching news and information, fallowing developments and innovations are some of the main reasons for canalizing people to use internet. When daily internet usage time of university students increases, internet addiction level of them also increases.
