  • Abstract
Surface currents induced by the combined effect of the wind stress over the sea surface, and thedensity distribution has been numerically modeled by Princeton Ocean Model, which is describedfully by Mellor and Blumberg (1987). A horizontal resolution of 1’X1’ has been used with seasonal time scale. The results show that the surface currents are dominated by the prevailing northerly to north-westerly wind regime and flow mainly towards the east to southeast. The simulation results show also that the circulation over the area of study is part of the Libya- Egyptian current, which branches from the North-African current and circulates cyclonically in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin
