Abstract :
Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to determine the prevalence of hypertension in adults of 30 and over in the province of Kayseri, and to reveal the factors affecting the prevalence of hypertension. Materials and methods: The study was carried out in 2676 thirty-years-old or older subjects in the province of Kayseri. A face to face inquiry was applied to the subjects from whom samples were taken and their weight, height and blood pressures were measured. Results: The mean ages of the study group were 49.7+13.8 years and 55.4% of them are women. The prevalence of hypertension was found to be 34.6%. Of the individuals with hypertension, 70.6% are aware of the illness, 50.3% take medication, and blood pressures of 28.9% are under control. The prevalence of hypertension is higher in those with an advanced age, in women, in those who didn t graduate from any school, in those who have hypertension patients in their families, in obese people, in those with less daily activities, and in those consuming animal fat and much salt. Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension in adults aged 30 years is 34.6%. The rate of being aware of the illness or its being under control is higher compared to similar studies.
