On Saadet Çagatay s Commnets and the studies on Turkish Grammar

The book titled “Ana Hatlarıyla Türk Grameri” which was written by Tahsin Banguoğlu in 1940 in the Republican era, became a model for the grammar books written later on. Saadet Çağatay who wrote an evaluation article for this work, appraised it as its method but also indicated its incomplete points. Many grammar books written later on, could not go beyond Banguoğlu’s grammar books which are mentioned and which he wrote afterwards in turn of method and perception in spite of the major progress in the field of linguistics. In particular, being far from the developments in the field of linguistics caused the books written in this field to become repetitions of each other. Despite not taking “synchronism”, “standard language” and “dialectical materials” into consideration in these works, some examples given by J. Deny are still in use. Many grammatical categories in these works are stirred. These books which are the repetitions of each other in every respect and can not be understood the reason of their being written, are distant from the modern grammar book of Turkish language. Profound scientific studies on the grammar of modern Turkish language are essential availing of the developments which both the grammar and linguistics has reached in the world.
