  • Abstract
Hyaluronic acid (HA), which is one of the primary components of the extracellular matrix, is synthesized by fibroblasts and chondrocytes. Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that takes place at cell proliferation, tissue regeneration, cell migration and progression of some malignant tumors. Hyaluronic acid has been widely used in ophthalmology, rheumatology, orthopedic and dermatology because of its anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects. Hyaluronic acid is recently used in dentistry for treatment of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis, ulcerative lesions and oral surgery. In this essay, our aim is to lay out the actual information about the utilization of HA that is commonly used in various areas, in dentistry.
