Abstract :
Purpose:The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 6 types with different chemical structure mouth rinses on the color stability of esthetic restorative materials. Material and Methods: 49 disc-shaped specimens (10x2 mm) were prepared each of the following materials: GC Gradia and Biodent hibrid composite. All the specimens were incubated in distilled water at 37° C for 24 hours. The specimens then removed, rinsed, dried and get ready for the preliminary color measurement. The baseline color values was measured by CIE L* a* b* relative to CIElab source using a spectrophotometer. The specimens were immersed in six commercially available mouth rinses in Turkey (Klorhex, Listerine Tooth defense rinse solution, Tantum Verde Santa Farma, Andorex hibrid mouth rinse, Pharmol Zn, Gengigel-hyaluronic acid) and control group with distilled water. Each specimen were immersed in mouth rinses for 24 h and kept at 37° C trough out the study. Then the specimen removed and submerged in distilled water and dried. The color of each specimen was measured with a spectrophotometer (VITA EasyShade). Results: All samples displayed color changes after immersion, and there was a statistically significant difference among the restorative materials and mouth rinses (p .05); Biodent restorative material, had the highest ΔE values among the restorative materials tested, and there was a significant difference between the ΔE values. Conclusion: Klorhexidine and Listerine mouth rinses may cause color changes on the restorative materials.
