Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the water sorption of the polycarboxylate, and glass ionomer cement containing a mixture of 5% chlorhexidine diacetate/ cetrimide. Material and Methods: Seven cement discs from each material were manufactured. Antibacterial agents with a concentration of 5% were added to the powders of the cements. Specimens were subjected to water sorption test. The data were measured at day 1, week 1, month 1, and months 6. Values were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Fisher’s LSD test (p 0.05). Results: The water sorption values of polycarboxylate cement was higher than glass ionomer. While the sorption values of polycarboxylate cement with anti-bacterial agent were lower than its control, except for day 1, this situation is contrary for glass ionomer cement. Conclusion: While the addition of chlorhexidine diacetate/ cetrimide mixture decreased the water sorption of polycarboxylate cement, increased the water sorption of glass ionomer cement.
