Is it possible for women researchers doing fieldwork in male-dominated site?

Recently, effects of positionality of the researcher in fieldwork on data gathering, interpretation and writing have started to gain attention from academics in Turkey. Although the positionality of the researcher is defined by variety of factors such as age, gender and class, this article only focuses on one of them, that is gender. It concerns the implications of gender relations in the field on knowledge production process of female researchers. The discussion made on the base of my fieldwork on romantic and sexual relationships between local men and tourist women. Based upon the cross-gender interviews and conducting fieldwork in male-dominated research sites, the study analyses how women researchers deal with devaluation, suppression, abuse, etc. and how they forge ways to do the fieldwork.
