History and Factor of Islamic Astronomy Development in Malaysia: An Analysis

There are several factors which drive the development of astronomy in ancient civilization such as the utility, the religious, the scientific inquiryand the politic. This article examines further the impetus factor that underlies the development of Islamic astronomy in Malaysia context. For the theoretical framework, the concept of astronomy according to the Qur an and the historical background of astronomy is taken as the basic reference. The method of data collection is regarded on the documentation method, while the data analysis is according to the method of content analysis. The result found that the main factor motivating the development of Islamic astronomy in Malaysia context is the religious factor. Besides, other factors also played significant roles particularly the scientific inquiry.
