Abstract
Aim: This study has been carried out to determine the assertiveness levels of high school students in relation to certain variables Method: The sample of descriptive study included 949 students studying in secondary schools subordinate to Istanbul National Education Directorate. A questionnaire prepared by the researchers and Rathus Assertiveness Inventory were used for data collection.Results: Demographic characteristics and Rathus Assertiveness Inventory scores of the students were compared. Rathus Assertiveness Inventory scores of the females, being born in Istanbul, having high incomes, participating in decisions at home and describing themselves as assertive and agressive were found to be high. In contrast, having health problems, success situation, failing in exams, family type, situation of parents being alive, numbers of siblings and birth order of attendants in their families had no effect on Rathus Assertiveness Inventory scores Conclusion: Being female, having high income and participating in decisions in the family increased students’ Rathus Assertiveness Inventory scores
