  • Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine temporal adverials in Turkish Cypriot children s language based on Smith s (1991) four classes of temporal adverbials (locating adverbials, duration adverbials, completive adverbials, frequency adverbials) in order to verify the effect of temporal adverbilas in determining situation types. Naturalistic observation is used to investigate temporal adverbials-situation types interactions of 75 Cypriot Turkish speaking children (Ages between 2,0-4,5) in their daycare setting. An other aim of the study is to form a proto-type for Cypriot Turkish language by defining situation types and temporal adverbials relationship. The results of frequency value and temporal adverbilas-situation types interactions of this study is compared with the results of frequency value and temporal adverbilas- situation types interactions of the Turkish language studies. The most occurent adverbials within the boundries of this study is found as locating adverbials. The least occurent adverbials within the boundries of this study is found as duration adverbials (0 usage). The result related to the most occurent adverbials is compatible with the results of the Turkish language studies. However, no representation of duration adverbials in the results of temporal adverbilas-situation types interactions studies of turkish language is not conventional.
